What Nexium Magnesium is used for

Nexium Magnesium is used to treat conditions which are listed below by name:

  • Nexus® tablets
  • Cymbalta® capsules
  • Zoloft® tablets

Nexium is also used in a lower dose of Nexium to treat other types of stomach problems, such as cancer and ulcers, as well as in children with diarrhoea, gas, diarrhoea and a weak bowel. It may be taken with or without food, but it is best to take it in the morning to reduce the risk of stomach irritation.

Nexium is available only with a doctor’s prescription.

Before you take Nexium Magnesium

When you must not take it

Do not take Nexium Magnesium if you are allergic to:

  • allopurinol (used to treat acid reflux) or probenecid (used to treat ulcers);
  • metoclopramide (used to treat depression)
  • sulindac (used to treat heartburn)
  • tricyclic antidepressants (used to treat anxiety, depression and other conditions)
  • dronabinol (used to treat anxiety)
  • cimetidine
  • an antibiotic called aminophylline (used to treat stomach and intestinal ulcers and infections)
  • procarbazine or amoxicillin (used to treat stomach ulcers)
  • phenytoin (used to treat diabetes)
  • an antifungal such as griseofulvin (used to treat fungal infections)
  • an antibiotic called trimethoprim-sulfa (used to treat ear infections)
  • a proton pump inhibitor such as captopril

Do not take Nexium if you have an intolerance to some sugars. Ask your doctor before use of the product if you are using the product to treat a kidney or liver problem.

Do not use Nexium if you have asthma.

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.

Nexium should be used with caution in the elderly and children under 18 years.
